Bismarck Drawings

You have been directed to this site by John Asmussen to whom I am extremely grateful for all the help he has given me during the twelve months I have worked on this project. It has been our aim to produce a set of drawings of the German battleship Bismarck that would be a benchmark.  We believe that the drawings available for sale here, fulfil that aim.

All drawings of Bismarck were confiscated by allied forces at the end of WWII. Their whereabouts is unknown, though believed to be in a Russian archive. Our drawings have been reconstructed from the best information currently available and we believe them to be the most accurate available anywhere in the world. The ship has been drawn at full size in AutoCAD and are accurate to a few millimetres (less than 1 mm for the ships length). The four drawings in the set took over 500 hours to produce and are currently available (paper copies only) at any scale you nominate.

The drawings are available at a maximum scale of 1:100. At this scale they are almost 3 metres  (3,000 mm or 300 cm) long and over 840 mm (80 cm) wide, so they are very large. With each halving of the scale the drawing length is reduced by 50%; so at 1:200 the drawings are still almost 1.5 metres long.

The Drawings

There are four drawings in the set and these are described below. The links below let you view images of the Bismarck set of drawings, but you should be aware that jpg files do not do full justice to the quality of this work. All drawings are in black and white as shown in the pdf file. Images shown are taken from AutoCAD screen captures and are for illustration only. All drawings are suitable for framing and are individually plotted to the scale you nominate. Each drawing takes approximately 25 minutes to plot at 600 dpi.

Drawing Two - Starboard view of the ship with engine room, water intakes and stabilizers

Drawing Three - Main Deck Plan, Loft Shapes of the hull in cross and long section together with winch details.

Drawing Four - Details of the ships superstructure, masts, radar etc. and modifications made throughout the ships life

Floatplane

Bismarck carried four Arado floatplanes and a detailed 1:50 scale drawing is  free when you order the complete set. 

Postage and Packing.

Postage and packing is extra and needs to be added to the base cost of the drawings. Rates vary from time to time and are charged at cost. Drawings are rolled (not folded) and mailed in a  sealed 90 mm (9 cm or 3.5 inch) diameter cardboard cylinder.
